What is a zine?
A zine (short for magazine) is a collaborative production created and distributed by fans for other fans. They usually take the form of small magazines or books containing a themed collection of works, like art, writing, and fan-made merchandise. They can be digital-only or include physical components sold in bundles of various size.✧What is this zine about? Is there a theme?
"Thousand Year Memories" will focus on all characters in the Frieren Universe.
The zine's theme is "memories" and pieces will focus on the relationships between characters and the memories they make together.✧What format will the zine have?
The zine will be available both physical and digital.
We also aim to have both physical and digital merchandise options (details will be determined once merch artists are selected).✧Will the zine be for profit or for charity?
This will be decided by our contributors, once acceptance mails have been sent.
Either way, contributors are guaranteed to receive the PDF and possible digital merch for free and will be able to purchase all zine products at production cost.✧Will ships be allowed?
Contributors will be allowed to imply or mention ships, but the focus of the pieces should lie elsewhere.
This can mean:
- Allowed: Subtle implications (eg. casually referring to each other as romantic partners, holding hands in the background of an art piece, etc)
- Not allowed: Explicit gestures (eg. kissing, the main plot of a story being 2 character dating/getting involved with each other romantically, etc)✧What is the rating of the zine?
The zine will be rated "Teen Up" and SFW.
Explicitly sexual NSFW content will NOT be featured.
Blood, gore and violence will be allowed to a canon-typical degree (eg. cuts, bruising, light blood, etc).✧Will there be manga-only content/spoilers for anime-only watchers?
Yes, there may be content containing manga spoilers for the anime-only watchers.
We aim to format the zine chronologically, so people can just skip the post-anime and post-manga sections and come back to them when they are all caught up <3
We will also try to include a specific spoiler warning before any fics that contain big, substantial spoilers for the manga.✧Will you allow AUs?
Contributors will be allowed to pitch AUs, but the mods will have to decide on a case-by case basis and reserve the right to refuse AU pitches, so you should have at least 1 canon or canon-compliant pitch.✧My question isn't answered here.

- Artists: Present rough sketches that showcase the general composition & most important characters/objects
- Writers: Prepare a general outline of your fic (premise, main characters, plot points, Ao3 style summary)

Application Guidelines

We are looking to accept +/- 30 artists & 5 writers.
(Guidelines are subject to change before applications begin.)✧General Guidelines
- Applicants must be 16 or older at the time acceptance mails are sent.
- You must have a Discord account as this will be the primary method of communication.
- No sexually explicit NSFW content, neither in your samples nor portfolio.
- It is possible to apply and be accepted for more than one position.
- We also accept applications for alternative forms of contribution (eg. poetry in the writer section / cosplay or crafts in the artist section—if you have any questions about this, please DM or e-mail us directly).✧Writers
Application Guidelines
- 3 samples that resemble what you plan on creating for the zine.
- Samples between 1–3k words (exceptions can be made for poetry samples).
- At least one sample should be a complete fic within the word count, the other may be excerpts from longer works.
- Frieren works are recommended but not mandatory.
- Portfolio of min. 5 works.
- Portfolio works may be longer fics, drabbles, etc. (if you do not have a complete Frieren sample, we recommend submitting a short drabble of +/- 500 words as part of your portfolio to showcase your characterization).
- Please submit working Google/Drop Box/Ao3/etc links (NO Twitter or Instagram Threads!) and make sure they can be viewed without needing additional permissions.
Zine Expectations
- 1 work between 1.5–3k words.✧Artists
Application Guidelines
- 3 samples of complete illustrations (characters, complete background, full shading & lighting, highest level of finishing you are capable of) in the style you intend to use for this project.
- Portfolio of min. 5 complete illustrations (Frieren pieces are appreciated but not mandatory.)
- Please submit working Google/Drop Box/DeviantArt/etc. links and make sure they can be viewed without needing additional permissions (NO Twitter or Instagram as portfolio!).
- Traditional art is accepted, as long as you can provide high quality scans (phone pictures are not sufficient for a printed zine).
Zine Expectations
- 2 pieces
- 1st piece should be a full page or spread illustration
- 2nd pieces can either be a 2nd page, digital/printable merch, flat merch (eg. art prints) or a spot-art collaboration with one of our writers.✧Merch Artists

- Portfolio of min. 5 works.
- Portfolio works may also include other non-merch art like spots, sketches for designs or page illustrations.
